Climate Change and Health in the Caribbean to be focus of regional conference next week

A virtual Conference on Climate Change and Health in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) with a Focus on the Caribbean, will be held from 5-8 October 2021.

The Conference will address the science of Climate Change and Health in the Caribbean, identifying knowledge gaps, posing solutions, and promoting resource sharing, networking, and empowerment. 

CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett will be among representatives of regional and international organisations addressing the event.

It is being held under the “European Union (EU)/Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM) Strengthening Climate Resilient Health Systems Project in the Caribbean”, which is being coordinated by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in accordance with One-health Approach and with the Caribbean Cooperation in Health Phase IV (CCH IV) Framework. 

The Project includes activities implemented by PAHO as well as the other Implementing Partners (IPs) that consists of CARICOM Institutions, including: the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the CARICOM Secretariat.  Additionally, several other United Nations (UN) agencies, universities and civil society will be supporting this Project.
