July 13, 2021, Barbados – The CDF and the CCCCC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will allow both agencies to collaborate in and facilitate the implementation of activities geared towards reducing disparities between Member States participating in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) generally and in particular to jointly support the efforts of Member States to address the adverse impacts of climate change.
The primary areas of cooperation under the MOU for both agencies are:
- Promotion and inclusion of climate change adaptation strategies in the sustainable development agendas of CARICOM Member States.
- Mainstreaming climate proofed development within CARICOM.
- Investment in Clean Energy use in CARICOM countries in both the private and public sectors.
- Development and implementation of innovative financing mechanisms to foster economic development and climate change adaptation and mitigation in: Infrastructure; Water supply; Coastal and marine ecosystems; Agriculture; Tourism; and Health.
Through this collaboration, the two agencies will seek to bolster the provision of technical and financial assistance in the identified areas to the countries participating in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, with special attention to the countries, sectors and regions classified as disadvantaged in the meaning of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.

The CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) (www.caricomdevelopmentfund.org) established in 2008 is a key developmental mechanism in the architecture of the CSME and is committed to achieving its vision to lead in providing effective, efficient and sustainable solutions that address the challenges faced by disadvantaged countries, regions and sectors participating in the CSME. In so doing its mission is to assist its Member States (namely Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago) in maximising the benefits arising from participation in the CSME, by reducing intra-regional disparities through effective partnerships and the provision of financial and technical assistance
About CCCCC
The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre is an inter-governmental Caribbean Community (CARICOM) institution that is mandated by the CARICOM Heads of Government to coordinate the Region’s response to climate change. We maintain the Caribbean’s most extensive repository of information and data on climate change specific to the region, which in part enables us to provide climate change-related policy advice and guidelines to CARICOM Member States. In this role, the Centre is recognized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the United Nations Environment Programme, and other international agencies as the focal point for climate change issues in the Caribbean. The Centre is also one of the few institutions recognized as a Centre of Excellence by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
