(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) – New Non-resident Ambassador of Sweden to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Her Excellency Maria Velasco, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Armstrong Alexis on 6 March 2026 at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.
The Deputy Secretary-General welcomed Ambassador Velasco, who was on an official visit to Guyana from 5–7 March 2026, following her accreditation to the Community early February in a virtual ceremony.

He noted her attendance at the Fiftieth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government late February in St Kitts and Nevis, where the Ambassador also met with the Assistant Secretary-General for Foreign and Community Relations, Ms. Elizabeth Solomon.
The courtesy call formed part of follow-up efforts to continue exploring opportunities for meaningful collaboration between CARICOM and Sweden.

The Deputy Secretary-General welcomed the Ambassador’s commitment and underscored shared values in democracy and governance, human rights, security, and the climate crisis. Ambassador Velasco affirmed her country’s shared values with CARICOM in multilateralism, regionalism, and respect for international law, and noted the potential for both to be a strong voice internationally.

Both sides discussed areas for enhanced cooperation, including sustainable development, green energy transition, climate change, trade, agriculture, waste management, digital technology, artificial intelligence in the workplace, youth development, and food security.
