CARICOM ELECTORAL OBSERVER MISSION TO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has invited the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to mount a CARICOM Electoral Mission to that Member State to evaluate and monitor the electoral systems and processes as well as the conduct of the General Elections on 10 December, 2001.

CARICOM has agreed, given the limited time available, to mount a Mission to observe the conduct of the General Elections on 10 December, 2001.

The CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission will be headed by Mr. Errol Bethel, Parliamentary Commissioner of the Bahamas, Chief of Mission. Other CARICOM Member States will be represented on the Mission which will be coordinated by a representative of the CARICOM Secretariat.

The Core Team of the Mission will arrive in Trinidad and Tobago on 5 December, 2001. The other members will travel to the twin-island Republic on the 7 December, 2001. The CARICOM Observer Mission will depart the country on 12 December, 2001.

The CARICOM Mission in executing its function will hold consultations with the relevant authorities, leaders of political parties and representatives of civil society.
