Guyana will propose that “The Region at All Levels in International Sport Should Be Represented by Regional Rather than National Teams” when the CARICOM 25th Anniversary Schools Debating competition enters its quarter final stage on Wednesday, February 10 at the Bishops High School Auditorium, Carmichael Street, Georgetown.
The home team will be opposed by Trinidad and Tobago who last week defeated Grenada in the preliminary round of the competition, one of the final major events marking the 25th Anniversary of the Signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas which established the Caribbean Community and Common Market.
St Kitts/Nevis and Montserrat will contest another quarter final on Wednesday at the same venue with St Kitts/Nevis proposing that “The Academic Performance of Caribbean Women Indicates That it is Only a Matter of Time Before They Assume Leadership of the Region”.
The semi-finals of the competition, which has been co-sponsored by LIAT (1974) Ltd, Air Caribbean, Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO), the National Bank of Industry and Commerce and Surinam Airways, will be staged on Saturday February 20.
The finals will be held during the Tenth Inter-sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community which will be held in Paramaribo, Suriname on March, 4-5, 1999.
