CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett said Thursday that CARICOM is committed to ensuring girls and young women participate in the implementation of regional strategies, “not as afterthoughts, but as architects of change”.
She was at the time addressing the opening activities to mark the Region’s 10th observance of CARICOM Girls in ICT Day. Activities were held virtually and in-person at the CARICOM Secretariat under the theme “Empower, Educate, Elevate: Building a Future Ready CARICOM with Girls in ICT”.
“CARICOM is committed to ensuring that girls and young women participate in the implementation of regional strategies, not as afterthoughts, but as architects of change. The pace of technological advancement requires us to act with urgency, with coherence, and sustained political will,” the Secretary-General said.
She added that CARICOM is strengthening the digital public infrastructure and innovation systems through regional cooperation, public-private partnerships, and initiatives supported by youth and education programmes.
“These create space where young women can advance beyond participation into leadership, research, and enterprise,” Dr. Barnett said.
