Prime Minister Spencer attends 25th Intersessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – March 11, 2014………Prime Minister the Hon. W. Baldwin Spencer joined his CARICOM counterparts for the 25th Intersessional Meeting of Heads opening in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday.
Major items for discussion at the two-day meeting include Human Resource Development in the Community, Information and Communications Technology for Development, Economic Growth and Sustainable Development, and Climate Change. The Heads of Government will also receive preliminary reports from a Commission on the Economy and a Transportation Commission, as well as the use of marijuana for medical purposes and on the issue of reparations and native genocide.
Prime Minister Spencer during the meeting will present a report on the CARICOM Inter Faith Conference held in February in Antigua.  The country’s leader will also pilot discussions on a Special Declaration on the issue of Reparations for Slavery and the Genocide of Native Peoples coming out of the Meeting of Heads of State and Government of Latin America and the Caribbean States CELAC, held in Havana Cuba in January this year.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to CARICOM His Excellency Dr. Clarence Henry is also attending the two-day meeting which will include exchanges with the President of the Regional Council of Martinique, His Excellency Serge Letchimy and the Foreign Minister of Turkey His Excellency Ahmet Davutoglu.
Finance and Economy Minister the Hon. Harold Lovell is the Acting Prime Minister during Mr. Spencer’s absence from the state. (Ends)
