Minister urges youth to reject ‘agropreneurs’ label

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, – Guyana’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, Tuesday urged young people involved in agricultural business to reject the “agropreneurs” label, a term used to refer to persons involved in agricultural enterprises.  “I absolutely reject the notion that agriculture is for subsistence livelihood. Anybody who wants to push that, I say absolutely not!” he told the Caribbean Farmers Network (CaFAN) youth consultation, adding that agriculture must be for entrepreneurship.
“The Permanent Secretary mentioned a word that is becoming popular — agropreneurs. Young people, you and I must say no,” Ramsammy said at the event, which forms part of Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA).
