German officials pay courtesy call to the CARICOM Secretariat

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) – Deputy Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr. Armstrong Alexis received high-level officials from the Federal Republic of Germany for a courtesy call recently at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters, as the country seeks to strengthen relations with Latin America and the Caribbean.

Germany was represented by the Division Chief for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, Mr. David Bartels and the Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Port of Spain, Mr. Martin Langer.

Dr. Alexis expressed CARICOM’s appreciation for Germany’s long-standing engagement with the Community, and the value CARICOM attaches to the steps Germany is taking to enhance cooperation.

The officials underscored Germany’s commitment to CARICOM, noting that the visit forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen relations with Latin America and the Caribbean.

Both parties discussed areas for enhanced cooperation in climate change and climate financing, sustainable development, agriculture and food security, transportation and health.
