CARIFESTA VII PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES

With August just a few months away the CARIFESTA VII spirit has encompassed the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Response from the Wider Caribbean Region and the international community is also being felt on a large scale as the Committee is bombarded with input.

The CARIFFESTA Marketing Committee chairperson, Christine Walwyn has also attributed the general exuberance surrounding CARIFESTA to the “New Millennium Fever” which she said has “spilled over” into CARIFESTA VII preparations. The year 2000 therefore has special significance.

The all-encompassing preparatory activities have drawn response from a wide cross section of the society. This inclusive strategy which was adopted by the Core Committee from the outset, has resulted in outstanding marketing success.

The long Easter weekend holiday provided excellent opportunities for local CARIFESTA promotions. These included the regionally popular horse races in Nevis and the locally renown Easterama celebration in Sandy Point, St. Kitts.

On all occasions, CARIFESTA T-shirts were worn, promotional literature distributed and posters and banners put on display. The CARIFESTA promo was interjected between horse racing events.

Other promotional opportunities included the 15th Biennial Conference of the Caribbean Women Association from April 24-28. Participants were provided brief bags highlighting the CARIFESTA Logo and containing pertinent information on the Caribbean arts festival. The Conference has great promotional capacity as about 60 representatives from around the region and their local counterparts are attending the conference in St. Kitts.

The CARIFESTA fever has spread across St. Kitts and Nevis and has also infected the people of the Caribbean Region generally. There is something for everyone both in the preparatory stages and the actual event. It promises to be an unforgettable moment in the history of the sister islands and the Caribbean Region as a whole.

The CARIFESTA Marketing Committee will shortly embark on a promotional tour targeting key festivals like the St. Lucia Jazz Festival; St. Vincent and the Grenadines Carnival (Vincie Mass); and the Caribbean Media Conference in Georgetown, Guyana.
