CARICOM Ministers hold talks with Global Environment Facility CEO on margins of COP 16

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers of Environment on Wednesday, 30 October, held bilateral talks with Mr. Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The discussions were held on the margins of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) in Cali, Colombia.

During the bilateral meeting, the Ministers held frank discussions on funding for the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework and other issues of concern to the Region including access and uptake of available GEF funds.

There were also discussions about accrediting a regional institution that is more familiar with the needs and capacities of the Region to become a GEF implementing entity. The Caribbean Development Bank made a brief intervention at the meeting.
