The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and Caribbean Export in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade of Columbia and the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) will be hosting a Seminar on Investment, Trade and Banking in Cartagena, Colombia 21- 22 February, 2002.
Background and Objective
The Seminar is a result of a Cooperation Agreement between the CARICOM Secretariat and the Andean Development Corporation signed in April 1996. This is the first such initiative under the Agreement, which allowed for funding of such activity by CAF. The objective of the Seminar is to encourage and support Trade and Investment between the Private Sectors of CARICOM and the Andean Community.
Exporters and potential Exporters throughout the Community are expected to participate. Presentations will be delivered on the following topics:
•The regulatory Environment for Trade and Investment in CARICOM and the Andean Countries;
•Existing Financial mechanisms for Supporting Trade and Investment;
•Transportation;
•Tourism
Round Table Discussions
There will also be Round Table Discussions on market access, distribution channels, business requirements and capacity to export/import needs. These discussions will focus on:
•Agro Industrial
•Clothing and Textiles
•Equipment
•Construction
•Petrochemicals
•Beverages
•Processed foods
•Services
Display of Products
As part of the Seminar there will be an opportunity for Exporters to display their products at an exhibition. Arrangements are being put in place for the construction of booths tailored to the needs of each Exporter wishing to exhibit their products. These booths will be provided free.
During the Seminar there will be opportunities for Caribbean and Colombian entrepreneurs to interact and strengthen business and trade contacts.
Funding
There is a limited amount of funding available to Exporters and potential Exporters with respect to air travel to Cartagena and special rates for accommodation.
Participation
Member States of CARICOM are strongly encouraged to be represented by both the Public and Private Sectors. This occasion provides an important opportunity for CARICOM countries to advance the process of trade diversification.
