Winner of CARICOM Triennial Award for Women heads UWI Cave Hill

For the first time in almost half-century of its existence, the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados will be headed by a woman.

The new principal is Professor Eudine Barriteau, who was appointed last August as principal of the University’s Open Campus but will now replace Sir Hilary Beckles, the new Vice-Chancellor who is leaving Cave Hill in April to succeed Professor Nigel Harris.

Professor Violet Eudine Barriteau of Barbados received the CARICOM Triennial Award for Women in July 2011. The aim of the Award is to honour a Caribbean woman who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of the Community. The recipient of the CARICOM Triennial Award received a 15 carat gold brooch/pendant with the CARICOM logo presented in a jewel box, as well as a scroll with a citation in a leather cylindrical holder.
