West Indies T20 achievement is testament to Region’s rich talent – PM Browne

Chairman of the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket, Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne has congratulated the West Indies Women and  Men’s cricket teams on their victories in the World T20 competitions, which ended in India on Sunday.

Prime Minister Browne said the achievement of winning all the ICC titles at stake in 2016, including the Under 19 which was won last month, is a testament to the talent which the Region possesses and evidence it can hold its own with the rest of the world.

In back to back matches on Sunday the West Indies Women whipped defending champions Australia to take their first World T20 title and then the Men trounced England to become the first men’s team to win the World T20 title twice.

Prime Minister Browne wants the performance to provide inspiration for the Region’s people  beyond cricket and into their wider endeavors. “Our Region is world class and can be champions in every field with the necessary commitment and hard work,” he said.

MESSAGE BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE PRIME MINISTERIAL SUB-COMMITTEE ON CRICKET, HONOURABLE GASTON A. BROWNE, PRIME MINISTER OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA ON THE WORLD T20 VICTORIES BY THE WEST INDIES WOMEN AND MEN’S CRICKET TEAMS

Chairman of the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket, Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne

It is with great pride that I congratulate the West Indies Women and Men’s cricket teams on their victories at the International Cricket Council World T20 Competitions.

Their skill and determination to succeed have captured the hearts of all, as has their energy and spirit during the tournament.  The deep self-belief and commitment augmented by the guidance of the coaching and support staff have ensured that their goal of being champions has been attained.

The momentous achievement of winning all the ICC world titles at stake in 2016—the Under 19, the Women and the Men—is unprecedented and is a testament to the talent which we possess in our Region and evidence that we can more than hold our own with the rest of the world.  I am hopeful that the resounding victories will help to unite the stakeholders, to strengthen the administration and the performance of West Indies Cricket long into the future.

Even as we savour the moment, let us look upon it as an inspiration not only in the field of cricket but in our wider endeavours.  Our Region is world class and can be champions in every field with the necessary commitment and hard work.

Well done West Indies!
