Recap | The Thirty-Fourth CARICOM Meeting of Chief Medical Officers

📍 20 April 2026 | Georgetown, Guyana

Why it matters: Today, Chief Medical Officers from across the Caribbean met alongside CARICOM officials, regional institutions, and partners such as CARPHA, PAHO, The University of the West Indies, and the Healthy Caribbean Coalition.

The Meeting was chaired by Dr Narine Singh, Guyana’s Chief Medical Officer.

This forum is more than a routine gathering; it is a space where health leaders align policies, share practical solutions, and strengthen collaboration across the Region. By working together, Member States can better tackle pressing challenges such as

The growing burden of non‑communicable diseases (NCDs)

Health workforce constraints, including training and retention

The need for modern, responsive care systems

Preparing for future shocks from pandemics and climate change

The Community’s goal: Build resilient health systems that not only respond to emergencies but consistently deliver reliable, equitable care for Caribbean people.
