Message From Secretary-General Larocque on The World T20 Victories By The West Indies

We have ability, not only to compete but lead the world – CARICOM SG on Windies Teams

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has congratulated the West Indies women and men’s teams on their victories in the ICC T20 competitions on Sunday, saying these triumphs underscored the fact that our people have the ability, not only to compete, but to lead the world.

The West Indies women defeated the defending champions Australia to win the Women’s World T20 title for the first time and the men crushed England a few hours later to become the first team to win the Men’s World T20 title twice.

In a message following the outstanding performances, Ambassador LaRocque also congratulated the teams’ coaching  and support staff, noting that their hard work ensured that the players, very well led by the captains, kept their focus on the ultimate goal. He also expressed the hope that these victories and that of the West Indies Under-19 team in the World Cup  earlier this year will inspire the Region’s youths  in particular and the people generally.

MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL, CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM), AMBASSADOR IRWIN LAROCQUE ON THE WORLD T20 VICTORIES BY THE WEST INDIES MEN AND WOMEN’S TEAMS

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque

Once again the West Indies cricketers have brought glory to our Region.  I congratulate the women and men’s teams on their victories in the International Cricket Council World T20 Competitions which demonstrated their ability to overcome the challenges they faced.

I also want to congratulate the teams’ coaching staff for their efforts.  The teamwork and team spirit in both teams were evident throughout the competition as the hard work of the coaching and support staff ensured that the players, very well led by the captains, kept their focus on the ultimate goal.  These triumphs underscored the fact that our people have the ability, not only to compete, but to lead the world.

Their victories and that of the Under-19 team in the World Cup earlier this year should serve as an inspiration to our youth, in particular, and to our people in all fields of endeavour.

Well done West Indies!
