MEDIA ADVISORY – INACCURACIES IN NEWSSTORY
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat has noted with great concern, the article published in The Peninsula (Qatar) on 1 April 2026, titled “GCC, CARICOM discuss Iranian attacks on regional countries.”; the official press release on the website of the Gulf Cooperation Council – https://www.gcc-sg.org/ar/MediaCenter/News/Pages/news2026-4-1-2.aspx and news stories on other media platforms.
The article incorrectly states that CARICOM, through its Secretary-General, Dr Carla Barnett discussed recent incidents in Iran with “HE Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi – Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council”. The CARICOM Secretary-General did not hold discussions with the official referenced above. The CARICOM Secretariat also did not issue any formal communication on this matter.
The CARICOM Secretariat has requested a correction from The Peninsula, GCC and the media outlets.
