It’s On!  Viv Richards Stadium Ready!

Northsound, Antigua, April 13, 2015:     “It’s On – Viv Richards Stadium is ready,” were the words of Sports Minister the Hon. Chet Greene on Sunday, as Antigua and Barbuda gets set to host the first Test Match between West Indies and England.

Earlier in the week, the Minister announced that the new replacement seats for the North Stand at the Sir Vivian Richards are fully installed through the hard work of the stadium staff and members of the Chinese construction team responsible for maintenance at the facility.

“The new seats add to the general upgrade of the facilities at the Stadium, thereby enhancing the overall aesthetics, making for a better spectator experience. In addition, there have been improvements to the video screen and the scoreboard. The new seats are designed in the colours of the national flag of Antigua & Barbuda, reinforcing the pride with which we hold this facility, named after one of our living National Heros, but also signifying the leadership role of this country in West Indies cricket,” Minister Greene stated.

He added that the work has been done in preparation to host the first test of the West Indies vs England series, commencing here today April 13th, and under the country’s mantra of “losing is not an option.”

“In also making sure that we create visible reminders of the success we are accustom to and for which we continue to strive, the Cabinet of Antigua & Barbuda has agreed to rename the North and Sound Ends at the Stadium as “The Curtly Ambrose End” and “The Andy Roberts End” respectively,” Minister Greene revealed

“The renaming ceremony will take place on the morning of the first day of the test, when we will use the opportunity to reenergise the support for West Indies cricket; something Antigua & Barbuda pioneered over 30 years ago. As the headquarters of West Indies Cricket, and working closely with the WICB, we want to be the leaders in restoring the fortunes of West Indies cricket,” he stated.

We are pleased to present a series of photos of the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in readiness for the First Test between West Indies and England.
