Guyana to host 34th CARICAD Board of Directors meeting

Georgetown, GINA, July 14, 2016 , Cabinet has given the go ahead for Guyana to host the 34th Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD) Board of Directors’ meeting. This was announced today, by Minister of State, Joseph Harmon. The date for the meeting is yet to be decided on.

At a post-Cabinet media briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency, Harmon explained that, “this (organising the meeting) is policy driven, it is part of a CARICOM implementation mechanism, and it deals with the public service and public sector.”

The Minister further noted that Guyana is becoming a ‘hot spot’ for these types of meetings and conferences. “Last week we had the Heads of Government of CARICOM here… we have the Attorneys General of CARICOM here at a big conference on the Hague convention… in a like manner we will have this conference on CARICAD. So you would recognise that Guyana is now a preferred destination for many of these CARICOM -type conferences, he said.

CARICAD is an regional inter-governmental organisation headquartered in Bridgetown, Barbados. It is an organisation which was established by CARICOM to promote, strengthen and upgrade the managerial and system capabilities of Public Sector entities within CARICOM Member states. The centre’s main focus is the development of a modern, efficient and high performing public sector. The centre executes its mandate by undertaking technical assistance assignments and projects for client governments and public sector organisations.
