CARIFORUM DG to Visit Grenada

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Director-General of the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM), Mr Percival Marie, is set to embark on his first official visit to Grenada since that country assumed the Chairmanship of CARIFORUM, with effect from 1 July 2013.

The Chair of CARIFORUM plays a leadership role in relation to intra-CARIFORUM matters, as well as the CARIFORUM-European Union (EU) Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and its institutional arrangements.

Mr Marie will hold discussions with Grenada’s Minister for Economic Development, Trade, Planning and Cooperatives, Hon. Oliver Joseph, on 23 August. The meeting will cover general CARIFORUM matters, EPA implementation and development cooperation.

It is expected that the exchange of views will help shape the focus of the regional bloc.

Mr Marie will be accompanied by two senior CARIFORUM Directorate aides, the Director of EPA Implementation, Mr Carlos Wharton, and the Director of Development Cooperation, Mr Eugene Petty.

The Chairmanship of CARIFORUM rotates in alphabetical order of the names of the Participating States, for a period of twelve calendar months commencing with effect from 1 July. The Dominican Republic held the office immediately prior to Grenada.

The fifteen signatory CARIFORUM States to the EPA are the independent CARICOM Member States and the Dominican Republic.
