OPENING CEREMONY

An Opening Ceremony will be held at the Assuria Event Centre, on Sunday 3 July 2022, from 6:00 p.m. Suriname Time. Remarks will be presented by:

  • CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett
  • Outgoing Chairman of CARICOM, Prime Minister Hon. John Briceno of Belize
  • Incoming Chairman of CARICOM, H.E. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi of Suriname
  • Newly elected Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Hon Phillip Davis
  • Newly elected Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Hon Phillip Pierre
  • Newly elected Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon Dickon Mitchell
  • United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres

The Order of the Caribbean Community (OCC) will be awarded to designated recipients during the Ceremony
The Ceremony will feature cultural presentations

BUSINESS SESSIONS

The Business Sessions will be held at the Torarica Resort, Paramaribo, on Monday and Tuesday, 4-5 July.
The Heads of Government are expected to deliberate on a wide range of issues of importance to the Community, including:
COVID-19 AND ITS IMPACT ON THE REGION

  • Heads are expected to deliberate on the ongoing regional Public Health Response and Economic Recovery measures

ADVANCING REGIONAL FOOD AND NUTRITION SECURITY

  • The Meeting will hear from the Lead Head on Agriculture and the Special CARICOM Ministerial Task Force on Agriculture on moving the sector forward

ACTIONS TO SUPPORT CSME IMPLEMENTATION

  • Heads are expected to hear from the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on the CSME on required actions

CLIMATE CHANGE AND CLIMATE FINANCING

  • Advocacy for a more systematic global response to help address the adverse impact of climate change, and the Region’s Plan of Work for COP27 will be key areas for deliberation

Regional Youth Forum

A virtual Regional Youth Forum with representatives from across the Community will be held on Friday 24 June 2022
The event is expected to be addressed by the CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett, incoming CARICOM Chairman, H.E. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi of Suriname, and Dean of the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors Ms Renee Atwell of Trinidad and Tobago

CARICOM 10-K Road Race

A 10-K Road Race featuring top male and female distance runners from across the Community will be held on Saturday 2 July from 5:30 p.m. Suriname Time. 
The race will begin and end at the Independence Square, Paramaribo.  The winner of the women’s category will receive the CARICOM Secretary-General’s Trophy and the men’s category will receive the CARICOM Chairman’s Trophy.

Meeting of (COFAP)

The Community’s  Council of Ministers of Finance and Planning (COFAP) will meet on Sunday 3 July with major economic development issues on the agenda
