CARICOM SG congratulates The Bahamas on 49th Independence Anniversary

CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett, has extended congratulations to the Government and people of The Bahamas on the occasion of the country’s 49th independence anniversary on 10 July.

“For the last 49 years, proud Bahamians have been making outstanding contributions in tourism, culture, sports and global affairs, to name a few.  The importance of The Bahamas to our Community is underscored by your role as Lead Head of Government with responsibility for Tourism in the CARICOM Quasi-Cabinet, an area that is of vital importance to many of our Member States,” the Secretary-General said in a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Philip Davis.

Please see the text of the message below:

“Honourable Prime Minister,

On behalf of the Caribbean Community, it is my honour to extend congratulations to the Government and People of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas on the occasion of the Forty-Ninth Anniversary of Independence.

Our CARICOM family joins all Bahamians in celebrating this commendable milestone.  The selected theme, “Proud to Be Bahamian”, is a reminder to Bahamians at home and abroad of their heritage, and duty to their country.

For the last 49 years, proud Bahamians have been making outstanding contributions in tourism, culture, sports and global affairs, to name a few.  The importance of The Bahamas to our Community is underscored by your role as Lead Head of Government with responsibility for Tourism in the CARICOM Quasi-Cabinet, an area that is of vital importance to many of our Member States.

Prime Minister, as I join you in celebrating this national milestone, I take pleasure in reaffirming the Community’s commitment to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas as it continues on its impressive path of progress.”
