CARICOM Secretariat staffers display gifts at Staff Talent 2014

Creativity and Innovation for a Better Tomorrow is the theme for this year’s Staff Talent Celebration at the CARICOM Secretariat.  The staff talent activities got off to an official start when CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque declared the week of activities open on Monday, November 24, in a brief ceremony held in the Secretariat’s large conference room.

The ceremony was set against the backdrop of various displays of collectibles and other art and craft items mounted by the very artistic and inventive staff at the Secretariat. Secretary-General LaRocque said he was very impressed with the talent he saw on show and commended the CARICOM Staff Talent Committee headed by Ms. Vanessa Stephney for an excellent job.

The CARICOM Secretariat was a flurry of activity on Monday morning with staff busily mounting displays of various types of visual art. There were digital photography pieces, canvas paintings, photographs from around the world, pressed flower art and collectibles such as shoes, hand bags, liquors from around the world, mug collections, scarf collections and a host of other art and craft items that were done by staff members and their families.

The Staff Talent Week of activities will showcase various forms of art including poetry, singing, dancing, modeling and the culinary arts. On Tuesday there will be a show dubbed an evening of Musical Entertainment, Poetry and Palav, where the singers, musicians and poets will show their prowess in style in the corridors of the Secretariat.

Our taste buds will come alive on Wednesday when the culinary exhibition is declared open at 11:00 am. There will be scrumptious dishes including Guyanese cuisine, foods from different CARICOM countries and various traditional beverages and baked delicacies. The Secretary General expressed particular interest in this activity and said jokingly “my talent in the culinary section is consuming”.

On Thursday the models of Trait’s Model Management along with staff members will invade the corridors of the Secretariat with pieces from Marcia Dos Santos, Sidney Francois and Street Styles.

The final evening of the CARICOM Staff Talent Celebrations will be Friday November 28 when there will be a Grill Master and Mixology Completion as well as a karaoke and games night.

The CARICOM Staff Talent week of activities is an annual event and is in its thirteenth year.  It continues to be a tremendous outlet through which the employees of the CARICOM Secretariat embrace and exhibit their various abilities.
