Following the historic adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Resolution designating the Trafficking of Enslaved Africans as the Gravest Crime against Humanity on 25 March 2026, the CARICOM Reparations Commission will host a media conference.
The Resolution declares transatlantic trafficking and chattel enslavement as humanity’s gravest crime due to scale, duration, brutality and lasting consequences. It calls for the establishment of reparations frameworks, emphasises remembrance, research and education and promotes healing and justice.
Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Chairman of the CARICOM Reparations Commission (CRC), Vice Chairs of the Commission and other experts will give perspectives on the significance of the Resolution and next steps to build on this landmark achievement.
