CARICOM congratulates Trinidad and Tobago on its 58th Independence Anniversary

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has extended congratulations to the Government and People of Trinidad and Tobago on its fifty-eighth Anniversary of Independence, praising the country’s role in regional integration.

“Trinidad and Tobago, one of the founding Members of the Community, has maintained its leadership role in advancing the integration movement, including through its leadership on regional security and energy issues,” Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said in a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.

The Secretary-General noted the wide-ranging successes recorded by the people of Trinidad and Tobago over its 58 years of Independence.

“The country has benefitted from the renowned creativity and imagination of its people, and the vision of its leaders to make significant strides in its development. Its successes in the fields of culture, sports, academia and diplomacy have been well chronicled,” Ambassador LaRocque said.

The fifty-eighth Independence Anniversary will be celebrated on Monday 31 August 2020.
