CARICOM Chairman assures Russia of Caribbean Community’s solidarity in wake of deadly bombing

Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) His Excellency Brigadier (ret) David Granger, President of Guyana, has condemned the bombing of the train in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The Chairman, in a letter to His Excellency Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, in decrying this “latest terrorist assault on innocent citizens,” said the “unremitting slaughter of innocent people regardless of the objective can never be justified.”

President Granger, in similar vein to sentiments expressed last month in a letter to British Prime Minister, the Honourable Theresa May following the terrorist incident in London, aligned the Community “with all efforts aimed at the eradication of the scourge of terrorism.”

In extending condolences to the relatives of the deceased and the Government and People of Russia, the Chairman assured President Putin of the solidarity of the people of the Caribbean Community “at this moment of national shock and grief.”

In his letter to Prime Minister May, the Chairman had condemned the act of “vicious violence against innocent people in London” and declared the Community’s support of the United Kingdom “in the face of this appalling incident and in its efforts to combat all manifestations of terror.”

On behalf of the Community, President Granger also expressed sympathy to the relatives of the victims of the London attack.
