CARICOM Member States and Institutions will continue to demonstrate their strong commitment to saving the oceans on Day Two of the UN Oceans Conference in New York on Tuesday, 6 June 2017.
The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism, a CARICOM Institution based in Belize, will join the Secretariat of the African and Pacific Group of States, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Government of Seychelles and the Secretariat of the Pacific Island Forum for a presentation on “Harnessing the Blue Economy to Increase Economic Benefits for SIDS and LCDs”.
Jamaica will join Singapore for a session on “The UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as a cornerstone in the implementation of SDG 14”. Jamaica will also joint other stakeholders for a discussion on “Partnerships in Practice – Catalysing Shipping Sector Transformation towards SDG 14”.
The Permanent Mission of Trinidad and Tobago will help to lead a presentation on “Small Island States: Taking the Lead for Sustainable Ocean Communities”.
The Government of Grenada and the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) are also part of a presentation on “Food from the Ocean”.
The 2nd and 3rd of the scheduled Partnership Dialogues will be held on “Managing, Protecting, Conserving and Restoring Marine and Coastal Ecosystems”, and “Minimising and Addressing Ocean Acidification”. Grenada and Saint Lucia will make presentations.
