Amateur and professional athletes from across the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will meet early Sunday (28 June) to compete in the Eleventh Annual CARICOM 10K Road Race on Bay Street Esplanade, Barbados.
A much anticipated feature ahead of the Regular Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government, this edition of the CARICOM 10k precedes the Thirty-Sixth Summit, which opens at the Hilton Barbados Resort on Thursday, 2 July, 2015.
This year, the competition will feature a junior category involving a 5k Road Race for secondary school students from Barbados, and the regular 10k that will see the participation of athletes from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The winner of senior male category will receive the CARICOM Chairman’s Trophy, while the female champion will receive the CARICOM Secretary-General’s Trophy. In addition to the trophies, there will be monetary prizes for the first three places in the 10K male and female race.
The event has attracted private sector sponsorship from entities in Barbados, Guyana and Saint Lucia, with the highest contribution coming from the Financial Investment Consultancy Services Ltd of Saint Lucia.
