Call For Nominations For The Ninth Caricom Triennial Award For Women, 2008

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat is pleased to invite Member States to submit nominations for the Ninth CARICOM Triennial Award for Women, 2008. The aim of the Award is to honour a Caribbean Woman who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of the Community. The following distinguished persons have been the recipients of the Award to date: (i) Ms Nesta Patrick of Trinidad and Tobago, 1984 (ii) Dame Nita Barrow (deceased) of Barbados, 1987 (iii) Dr Peggy Antrobus of St Vincent and the Grenadines, 1990 (iv) Ms Magda Pollard of Guyana, 1993 (v) Dr Lucille Mathurin Mair of Jamaica, 1996 (vi) Professor Joycelin Massiah of Guyana/Barbados, 1999 (vii) Professor Rhoda Reddock of Trinidad and Tobago, 2002 (viii) Justice Desiree Bernard of Guyana, 2005

Attached are (i) the guidelines for nominations; (ii) suggested areas of candidacy; and (iii) bio-data form to be completed for the nominee. A statement in support of the nominated candidate should accompany submission of the completed bio-data form.

Attachment I:  CARICOM TRIENNIAL AWARD FOR WOMEN, 2005

GUIDELINES

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat invites nominations for the Ninth CARICOM Award for Women – 2008. The Award is made on a triennial basis and takes the form of a medal crafted in gold. The aim of the Award is to honour a Caribbean woman who has made outstanding contributions to the socio-economic development of the Caribbean Community.

Each Candidate must:

(i) be over the age of 18 years;

(ii) have achieved recognition in the particular field of endeavour for which she is nominated;

(iii) be a national of a Member State of the Caribbean Community.

Nominations will be accepted from governments, non-governmental organisations submitted through the national government, from regional institutions, regional non-governmental organisations and the private sector submitted directly to the Secretary-General.

Each nominating agency must submit a completed bio-data form (Attachment III) in support of its candidate in the areas of candidacy listed in Attachment II: Suggested Areas of Candidacy. These data must be supported by relevant original documents. Each agency, in addition, must submit a statement in recommendation of the candidacy.

Nominations must be sent under CONFIDENTIAL cover to reach the Secretary-General, Caribbean Community, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, P.O. Box 10827, Georgetown, Guyana, by 15 February 2008 with the envelope clearly marked CARICOM AWARD FOR WOMEN. The successful candidate as well as the nominating agency will be notified through the Office of the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community of the date and venue for presentation of the Award.
