The CARICOM Environment and Natural Resources Policy Framework (CENRPF) is a strategic blueprint for sustainable environmental stewardship across the Caribbean Community. Anchored in the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, this policy aims to guide the responsible management of land, water, air, marine resources, biodiversity, and forests—critical assets for regional prosperity, resilience, and climate adaptation.
Developed through extensive consultations with Member States, civil society, and technical experts, the Framework promotes a harmonized approach to environmental governance, balancing regional integration under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) with national autonomy. It outlines key thematic areas—such as climate resilience, sustainable energy, disaster risk reduction, and waste and chemical management—while advocating for the involvement of all sectors, including youth, the private sector, and indigenous communities.
The Policy underscores regional cooperation, environmental justice, and the importance of integrating environmental considerations into trade, education, and economic development. Through coordinated action and partnership, the Framework aspires to ensure the sustainable use of natural resources for present and future generations of Caribbean people.
