HOSTED BY BARBADOS IN GEORGETOWN, GUYANA
22 NOVEMBER 2024
The George-Bridge Declaration, a significant document in the context of the Caribbean region’s crime and security concerns, was prepared in Georgetown, Guyana, on Friday, 22 November 2024, at the Second Regional Symposium: Violence as a Public Health Issue—The Crime Challenge.
It highlights CARICOM’s regional approach to crime and security, including establishing a Task Force to draft model legislation, strengthening the Regional Security System (RSS), implementing targeted programmes for children and youth affected by violence, criminal rehabilitation and addressing the critical importance of mental health and education among other strategic interventions.
The Declaration is anchored on the working definition of Crime and Violence as a Public Health Issue proposed by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the Needham Point Declaration (NPD) guiding policy principles.
