Re: MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE
It was with great sadness that we learned, through your X handle announcement on 28 August 2024, of the passing of Sir Shridath Ramphal. On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in Havana, Cuba, I extend our deepest condolences to: You and the CARICOM Secretariat, the bereaved family, the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the people of Guyana in general as well as to the Commonwealth of Nations.
We remember with fondness and greatly value the mediating role played by the now late Sir Shridath Ramphal in the decolonization and coming to Statehood of Zimbabwe. In his key position as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Sir Shridath Ramphal, helped steer the course towards our Independence with his astute leadership at the 1979 Lusaka Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting which, subsequently led to the 1979 Lancaster House Conference.
Our prayers and thoughts are with his family and the people and Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and may the dear soul of the departed Sir Shridath ‘Sonny’ Ramphal rest in eternal peace. He indeed fought a good fight
