Youth engagement: Intergenerational Dialogue in Latin America and the Caribbean for Biodiversity

In order to strengthen the dialogue and participation process of youth of the region, the ACP MEAs Project represented the CARICOM Secretariat in a panel discussion on issues related to biodiversity and youth empowerment in the Global Framework of Biodiversity Post 2020 on 16 June 2021.  The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) for Latin America and the Caribbean held its first intergenerational dialogue for biodiversity in LAC.  CARICOM presented a summary of the presentations from experts during the 2020 Biodiversity Webinar Series to promote an urgency of action at the highest levels in support for the GBF framework that contributes to the re-shaping of the Caribbean region’s vision for biodiversity. This information will serve to inform the results of the GYBN national consultations and activities related to biodiversity in LAC.

Multilingual even participants included the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity; representatives of the governments of Mexico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Belize; as well as representatives from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability.
