A group of media practitioners and government Communications Officers from Suriname are expected to benefit from a training programme next week as preparation for the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) is accelerated in that Member State.
From 30 March – 02 April a team of resource persons from the CARICOM Secretariat will conduct the four-day seminar, which will focus on capacity building in media related skills and techniques for the accurate transfer of information on the CSME and the CCJ to various local audiences.

From 30 March – 02 April a team of resource persons from the CARICOM Secretariat will conduct the four-day seminar, which will focus on capacity building in media related skills and techniques for the accurate transfer of information on the CSME and the CCJ to various local audiences.
Through presentations, panel discussions and group activities, participants will benefit from an overview of the CSME, concentrating specifically on national priorities as it relates to challenges, opportunities, orienting and adjusting the private and public sectors. But most importantly, they will profit from lessons in the effective use of communication methods to reach desired publics on matters of the CSME.
As the Community moves closer towards implementation of the CSME, media practitioners and communications professionals are viewed as major stakeholders as they are recognized as the vanguards of the integration process.
“The goal of the project is to accelerate the pace of Suriname’s integration into the Caribbean Community through efforts to bridge the language gap at the level of communication and information flows”. Resource persons expect that at the end of the workshop, participants will develop a clearer understanding of and appreciation for the CSME especially so, given the language challenge presented by the Dutch- speaking country.
The historic accession of Suriname to the Caribbean Community in 1995, as the first non-English Member State, signified the beginning of a new era in the language dynamics of the Regional grouping in its pursuit to deepen and widen its membership.
