SG discusses CARICOM-UNAIDS continued collaboration

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque met with UNAIDS Executive Director Mr. Michel Sedibe on the margins of the UN Meetings currently taking place in New York.  The discussions centered around continued collaboration between CARICOM and UNAIDS in the fight against AIDS.

The Caribbean Community  has expressed  whole hearted support for the Global strategy proposed by UNAIDS to achieve the bold aspirational goal of ending AIDS which aligns with the global health targets in the 2030 SDGs approved by the UN.

The Region’s position was reinforced in a Statement in New York by the CARICOM Lead Head for Human Resources, Health and HIV, Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris of St. Kitts and Nevis:

“We in the Caribbean are committed to the UNAIDS Strategy to fast track the End of AIDS.  Indeed, we aspire to achieve the slogan:  Caribbean- First to Zero

I urge us all to make it happen. For if we can help the Caribbean with its limited resources to end AIDS, we send a powerful message to the rest of the world that it can happen elsewhere. We send a powerful message that when it comes to doing the right thing for humanity, we will not surrender nor retreat.”
