(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary General His Excellency Edwin Carrington has extended heartfelt condolences on the death of Antigua and Barbuda Representative in the Upper House of Parliament, Senator the Honourable Francis Nunes Jr.
In his Message of Condolence, the Secretary General remembered Senator Nunes as a pioneer in the area of energy conservation and recognied his tireless work in the private sector.
The full text of the message reads:
`The Caribbean Community Secretariat presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Antigua and Barbuda and on this most sad occasion of the passing of Senator the Honourable Francis Nunes Jr, has the honour to forward the following Message of Condolence from the Secretary General, Caribbean Community:
“It is with deep regret and a sense of sadness that the Caribbean Community learnt of the passing of Senator the Honourable Francis Nunes Jr., distinguished Representative in the Upper House of Parliament, Antigua and Barbuda.
The important and valuable contribution that Senator Nunes has made to his country is widely recognized, not only by the people of Antigua and Barbuda, but in the Region as a whole. He was a pioneer in the field of energy conservation, and shared the vision of a strong, dynamic and vibrant private sector, as the engine of growth, fueling the economic development of Antigua and Barbuda. To this end, he worked tirelessly, serving as an Executive Member and Vice President of the Antigua Chamber of Commerce and President of the Antigua and Barbuda Manufacturers’ Association and will be remembered for his diligence and the dignified manner in which he executed his roles.
On behalf of the Member States of the Caribbean Community, and on my own behalf, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda and to join his family in mourning.”
