(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Energy in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) comes under focus this week as portfolio Ministers meet in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, for a Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).
Officials in the Energy Sector met in Port-of-Spain on Wednesday ahead of the 41st Special Meeting of COTED on Energy which will be convened on Friday at the Hyatt Regency under the Chairmanship of the Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore, Minister of Public Works, Energy and Ports, Dominica.
At the one-day meeting, Ministers will concentrate on finalising the CARICOM Energy Policy. Ministers will place attention on Regional targets for renewable energy as well as regional strategies for scaling-up sustainable energy in the short, medium and long-term as part of the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Road Map and Strategy.
Developments with regard to geothermal resources, particularly in the Eastern Caribbean, will be deliberated on during the Meeting. In addition, the Ministers will identify appropriate responses to prevailing high energy prices and other pertinent issues impacting the Regional Energy Sector.
