MEDIA CLINIC – PREPARATIONS FOR 22ND CARICOM HEADS SUMMIT

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Mr. Edwin Carrington will lead a team of CARICOM Secretariat’s officials for a media clinic in The Bahamas on 19 June, 2001 at the Radisson Cable Beach Resort. The four-hour session, which starts at 9 a.m., forms part of activities leading up to the 22nd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, which will be held in The Bahamas from 3-6 July, 2001.

The forum will provide an opportunity for journalists and other stakeholders to be brought up to date on crucial matters that will engage the attention of the Heads of Government when they meet. The event also provides an opportunity for an exchange of information, dialogue and discussion between the CARICOM experts and the stakeholders.

This year the CARICOM Heads of Government will direct attention and make decisions on the future well-being and economic viability of the Region. These include the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), the establishment of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), the growing crisis as it relates to HIV and AIDS, the Region’s External Economic Relations and the upcoming encounter with the Region’s Civil Society.

The Secretary-General will be accompanied by Assistant Secretary-General, Human and Social Development, Dr. Edward Green; Adviser, Single Market and Economy, Desiree Field-Ridley; and Director, Foreign Policy and External Economic Relations, Faye Housty.
