KINGSTON, Jamaica – JAMAICA has benefited significantly from the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act (CBERA), and more generally from the Caribbean Basin Initiative, Jamaica's Ambassador to the United States Stephen Vasciannie told a public hearing of the United States International Trade Commission in Washington, DC last Thursday.
Ambassador Vasciannie's presentation is designed to assist the commission compile its 21st report to Congress and the president on the economic impact of the CBERA, which was introduced in the 1980s to provide preferential trading arrangements for Caricom member states.
Ariel Bowen, minister/counsellor at the Jamaican Embassy in Washington, DC, also attended the hearing.
