HRD Consultations to kick off Monday in Guyana

The CARICOM Secretariat along with the Human Resource Development Commission will be hosting a series of national consultations across the Region in its quest to develop a strategy that will shape the future of the Region’s education and human resources.

The first consultation will be held in National Centre for Education Resource Development (NCERD), Georgetown, Guyana on 17 October, 2016.  Other consultations will be held in Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Belize, The Bahamas and Jamaica. A joint consultation for all OECS Member States will be hosted in Saint Lucia.

The consultations follow the launch of the HRD Commission in May. At the launch, CARICOM Youth Ambassador from Barbados, Zuwena Perry, threw her support and that of the CYAs behind the Commission, saying that it was proof that the Region’s leaders were actively seeking to improve the education sector within CARICOM.

Since the launch, a draft of the HRD Strategy was done. This document will be further shaped based on the outcomes of the consultations.

Check out the clip above in which Director, Human Development at the CARICOM Secretariat Ms. Myrna Bernard, explains more about the purpose of the HRD Strategy and provides details about how the national consultations will benefit the Community.
