Haiti getting $27M for transportation improvements

(Caribbean Journal) Haiti is getting a $27 million grant to improve transportation infrastructure, following approval from the Inter-American Development Bank.

The grant will help modernize and improve the management of Haiti’s roads and ports, the IDB said. It is the first in a series of three policy-based grants to support various government agencies.

It will also improve road sector management and modernise Haiti’s maritime sector management with an emphasis on port reforms.

“The programme will benefit both the private and public sectors by providing better transport and maritime port infrastructure, lower costs and decreased travel time,” the Inter-American Development Bank said in a statement.

“Those reforms will address the policy, legal and institutional constraints that negatively affect the effective and sustainable implementation, output delivery and impact of the IDB-financed investment operations currently under execution and expected for the following years in the transport sector,” the IDB said.
