Gov’t to discuss Air J fallout with CAL team

KINGSTON, Jamaica – A high-level team from Trinidad and Tobago is to arrive in the island in a few weeks to hammer out an arrangement with the Jamaican Government over recent actions relating to Caribbean Airlines (CAL), including the carrier's plan to drastically reduce flights to Jamaica.
“I have agreed with Minister Bharath, who has responsibility for CAL in the Trinidad and Tobago Government, that he will come to Jamaica either late this month or early in June with his full team,” Dr Davies told the House of Representatives yesterday during his contribution to the 2013/14 Sectoral Debate at Gordon House in Kingston.
Caribbean Airlines assumed responsibility for Air Jamaica flights as well as the right to use the Air Jamaica brand name in 2010. It has, however, faced significant challenges despite receiving significant subsidies from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. The airline, in order to address its worsening financial situation, took the decision to reduce the number of flights in and out of Jamaica.
