Dolphin treat at Burke’s Beach

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Advocate – FOR CLOSE to an hour and a half, bathers got an unusual treat when Burke’s Beach on Bay Street was transformed into an underwater park with the presence of more than two dozen dolphins.
One swimmer on the popular beach told the WEEKEND NATION he was pleasantly surprised when he saw the 30 dolphins make their way to the shore, before boat owners combined to manoeuvre the sea mammals back into the comfort of the deep waters.
“All’s well that ends well. Some of us may have been too excited and got close to them and they panicked and headed towards the shore,” one bather said.
One man who frequents the beach said that dolphins and whales did not normally come up to rest on the beach like seals did and if they beached themselves it was usually because something was wrong.
