CPDC launches regional campaign against poverty and inequality

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Jan 14, CMC – The Barbados-based Caribbean Policy Development Center (CPDC) says it will launch its Action/2015 Caribbean campaign on Thursday as part of the larger global Action/2015 campaign to end poverty, inequality and bring attention to significant climate change issues.

CPDC said 2015 is the year for critical international meetings charged with determining the future of humanity and the planet ranging from the upcoming 3rd International Conference for Financing for Development Process in July in Addis Ababa, the UN Summit on the Post-2015 Development Agenda in September to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in December in Paris.

“All of these processes will have significant impacts which will shape the nature of development priorities and assistance available to the region.

“This campaign is therefore designed to mobilize citizens and civil society to push our governments to deliver concrete results this year through these various international processes.”

CPDC said the slogan for the campaign is “Do More, Do Better,”  which emphasizes “our desire for Caribbean governments to step up their participation and voice in these processes in order to agree on relevant decisions that will lead to a positive substantial change in the daily lives of all citizens.”

CPDC said it was urging everyone to get involved in the campaign and that on Thursday it would be “undertaking a massive social media campaign featuring live Facebook and twitter chats with citizens from the across the region as we encourage people to comment on what they want governments to carry forward”.
