(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, is in Washington D.C. USA, for a series of meetings with International and Hemispheric Institutions including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), World Bank and the Organisation of American States (OAS). The Secretary-General will also pay a courtesy call on the Director of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) Dr Mirta Roses Periago.
Ambassador LaRocque will meet with the President of the IDB, Mr. Luis Alberto Moreno on Tuesday and with Vice-President, Latin America and the Caribbean, of the World Bank, Mr. Hasan Tuluy on Wednesday. Also on Wednesday he will meet with the OAS Secretary-General, Mr. José Miguel Insulza.
The Secretary-General’s mission, which ends on Friday 27 April, includes a session with the Caucus of CARICOM Ambassadors in the US capital, discussions with leaders of the Caribbean Diaspora and an address on Friday at the George Washington University under the theme “Development Challenges in the Caribbean and the Role of CARICOM”.
