(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) CARICOM Secretary General, His Excellency, Edwin Carrington, leaves Guyana on December 1 for a series of speaking engagements in Jamaica, Miami and Guadeloupe.
The Secretary-General will be in Jamaica on Saturday December 2 to deliver the feature address at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Caribbean Media Awards function. The theme of the awards is `Migration and Development.’ The competition was open to Caribbean-based print, radio and television journalists from the 21 countries represented by the UNFPA Office for the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean.
On the evening of Monday December 4, Mr. Carrington will be the keynote speaker at the opening dinner of the 30th Miami Conference of the Caribbean hosted by the Caribbean-Central American Action at the Inter-Continental Hotel. The forum, which concludes on December 6, will place special attention on energy and its impact on the Region’s competitiveness; the CARICOM Single Market and its impact on economic growth and employment in the Region; and the nature of commercial relationships with Europe and Asia.
Thereafter, the Secretary-General travels to Guadeloupe to be the guest speaker on Wednesday December 6 at the Institute of Franco Caribbean Cooperation and participate in a breakfast forum on the relationship between the French DOMs and the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean Pacific States (CARIFORUM). His address at the Institute will be delivered on the topic ‘Integration in the Caribbean one and Globalisation: Impact of CARICOM-CARIFORUM.’ While in Guadeloupe, the Secretary-General will meet with President of the Regional Council, Mr. Victorin Lurel.
