Secretary General of the Caribbean Community, Mr. Edwin Carrington yesterday received credentials from Ambassador designate of Saint Lucia to CARICOM, His Excellency Mr. Earl Huntley.
At a brief Ceremony held at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters in Georgetown on Wednesday, Secretary General of CARICOM noted with great satisfaction and delight that Mr. Huntley was no stranger to international affairs having served in the foreign services in Saint Lucia for many years and principally in light of his recent capacity as Saint Lucia’s permanent representative to the United Nations. He expressed great confidence in Mr. Huntley’s selection noting that his addition serves to strengthen the regional team.
Ambassador Huntley brings tremendous experience in regional and international affairs to CARICOM having been a strong activist in pursuit of a Political Union of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and given his ongoing contributions to dialogue and policy directions to several regional bodies.
In a brief statement during the Ceremony, H.E Huntley noted that CARICOM is important to St. Lucia making particular reference to the brotherhood that has been enjoyed in the island’s quest for independence and nationhood.
“I welcome the opportunity to work in the regional integration movement. Personally, I have been a devout advocate of regional integration and would like to pledge St. Lucia’s continued support for the work of the CARICOM Secretariat and the Community”, Mr. Huntley added.
Mr. Huntley succeeds H.E Anthony Severin who was recently reassigned by the Saint Lucia government.
