CARICOM JUNIOR ART COMPETITION CLOSED

A Region-wide art competition opened to schools across CARICOM closed on Monday January 26, 2004.

Coordinated by the CARICOM Secretariat Directorate of Human and Social Development under the direct supervision of the coordinator of the 30th Anniversary Progamme, Ms. Marilyne Trotz, the competition is part of CARICOM’s ongoing programme commemorating the thirtieth anniversary of its establishment.

The competition will be judged in Guyana on February 5, by two distinguished Caribbean artists, Mr. Stanley Greaves of Guyana and Mr. Luigi St Omer of Saint Lucia, as well as curator of Guyana’s National Art Gallery, Ms. Elfrieda Bissember.

After the winning pieces have been identified, the more than fifty entries submitted to the CARICOM Secretariat from students in Member States across the Region will be placed in a public exhibition at the Cara Lodge Hotel in Georgetown, on Friday 6th February.

Winners will receive trophies, and certificates of participation will be given to all participants.

Sponsored by the Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (RBTT), Cara Lodge Hotel, and Burrowes School of Art, Guyana, the Regional Art Competition was held under two themes, “We Live in the Caribbean” and “What CARICOM Means to Me”.

The competition was opened to two categories of students, for primary level students aged between 8-12 and for Secondary level students aged 12-16 respectively.
