The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat will say “thanks” to 31 members of staff who have provided between ten and thirty years of service in the discharge of the Secretariat’s functions throughout the Community.
The function will take place at the Georgetown Club on Camp Street, Georgetown, on Friday July 21, 2000, on the occasion of the Twenty-seventh Anniversary of the Signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas.
The anniversary celebration, which has become a tradition in the Secretariat to, among other things, honour staffers who have served the Secretariat in different capacities over a number of years, begins at 7.30 p.m.
Heading the list of recipients of service awards is Sheila Chan, who has been a staffer since the CARIFTA Secretariat was set up initially at Colgrain House in 1968. Colgrain House is now the official residence of the Secretary-General of CARICOM.
As part of the formal ceremony, Mr. Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of CARICOM, will move a toast in honour of the Government and people of Guyana, while the President, His Excellency Mr. Bharat Jagdeo will reply.
The President will also assist in the presentation of awards to the 31 members of staff . Of these, two have more than thirty years service with the Secretariat, eight recipients have twenty years service, four have served fifteen years and seventeen awardees have ten years service.
