(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) – On Friday, 31 October 2025, Dr. Armstrong Alexis, Deputy Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), met with His Excellency Gilmar Simon Pisas, Prime Minister of Curacao, the Community’s newest Associate Member.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s office in Willemstad, following Dr. Alexis’ participation in statistics-related sessions that were held during the week in Curacao.

During their discussions, Prime Minister Pisas and Dr. Alexis expressed their solidarity and support for Jamaica, in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Mellisa, which struck the island on Tuesday as a Category 5 storm. As a gesture of unity, Curaçao illuminated its iconic Queen Emma Bridge in the colours of the Jamaican flag on Friday night.

The talks also addressed a number of regional matters, Curacao’s participation in CARICOM’s Regional Institutions, and the island’s pride at hosting its first CARICOM event since becoming an Associate Member in July 2024.
